Canton Charge

Quinn Cook continues to take advantage of every opportunity in front of him.

Quinn Cook is a man that is all about staying in the moment and taking advantage of every opportunity in front of him.

All throughout the Cleveland Cavaliers training camp, Cook was in a battle for the final roster spot along with Jared Cunningham. Even though Cook was not awarded the final roster spot, he was not discouraged one bit, saying, “I didn’t make the team so that gave me a lot of motivation to come down (to Canton) and prove to a lot of people that I can play in the NBA.”

In his time with the Cavaliers during training camp, Cook did learn a lot from the other members of the team about how to be a better professional on and off the court. Cook enjoyed going to the gym every day and seeing players he had idolized growing up and he appreciated the fact that members of the team checked up on him to make sure he was doing well throughout camp.

Cook called his time with the Cavaliers during training camp “a great learning experience.”

Right now Cook is making the most of his opportunity with the Canton Charge. In 16 games this season the first-year guard is averaging 17.4 points and 4.4 assists for the Charge.

Before coming to the professional level, Cook spent four years playing college basketball at Duke University. Cook had a successful four-year college career as he averaged 11 points and 3.6 assists and won a national championship as a member of the Blue Devils.

During the interview, Cook also took time to reflect on playing under legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski saying, “it was fun man, he taught me a lot and I learned a lot, not just on the court but off the court stuff as well, he is like a father to me.”

In the course of Cook’s time at Duke he was able to play with several players who went on to the next level, including 2015 third overall pick Jahlil Okafor. Cook spoke highly of his former teammate. “ He’s playing terrific so far,” Cook said, “I think he is the best player in the rookie draft class, he is a franchise player.”

Last year in Cook’s senior season his Duke team accomplished something that only four other Duke teams have done and that is win a national championship. “I have been at the highest and lowest and to leave as a winner, that is why you play college basketball and why people watch college basketball, for stories like that.”

When asked who would win the national championship this season Cook smiled and said without hesitation, “Duke.”

Cook has been playing the game of basketball his whole life but his motivation has remained the same throughout his time on the court and that is to love the game of basketball. “I love to leave the gym knowing I got better every single day.”
