The Kent State University men’s basketball team is in a critical Mid-American Conference (aka MACtion), tonight. Kent State takes on rivals, 15 miles south of Kent, in Akron University at the M.A.C.C. Center, tipoff set for 9 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2.
The last time these two rivals faced each other was in Akron on February 17. Kent State won that game, 70-67. Deon Edwin led the way for Kent State with 21 points (7/11 FG, 2/3 from three), 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal. Jimmy Hall, who entered the NBA Draft last summer, but decided to come back to Kent State, added in 18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Rising star, Jaylin Walker also put in 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal.
The Golden Flashes shot 43.1% from the field, 36.8% from three and 61.9% from the free throw line. The Golden Flashes also only had five turnovers on the night, which was key on the win.
For a win tonight, Kent needs big contributions from Hall, Edwin and Walker. Not only do they need contributions from their stars, but they also need contributions from the rest of the team. They also need to have the same amount of turnovers or even less tonight as well.
With a win tonight and a couple of losses from other teams, Kent State could get the No. 2 seed in the MAC Tournament.
